Festivals and Fiestas In Estepona the following traditional festivals are important Three Kings (6th January) - Typical procession which takes place during the evening in the centre of town. The three elaborately costumed 'Kings' throw sweets to the crowd. This is a wonderful event and unlike here the children actually get their presents on this day when the kings gave gifts to Jesus. Great party time, this is Christmas in Spain . Carnivals (Shrove Tuesday) - Very festive procession with floats through the centre of the old town. In the evening the town hall sponsors a free concert with dancing during which a celebrity is invited to be the Master of Ceremonies (Pregon). Easter Week - Holy Week celebrations. As in most Andalusian towns, there is a procession every afternoon which lasts well into the night. A throne, representing part of the Easter story is carried by a team of men around the town accompanied by the municipal band and hundreds of 'brotherhood' members. Saint Isidro the Farmer (15th of May) - One of the towns two patron saints. A festive pilgrimage to the chapel in Los Pedregales Park . (5km inland from the town on the road to Casares which leaves the town by the industrial estate. Many youngsters and families camp over the weekend at the park where there is live music and dancing. There is a livestock contest and agricultural machinery and produce shows. There is also a procession through the streets of the old town. San Juan (23rd of June) - The action is on the beach with bonfires and partying throughout the night. Beach bars serve the traditional barbecued sardines. The tradition is to paddle in the sea at midnight , so cleansing the soul. Some young revellers go still further and take a swim fully clothed! The Summer Feria (1st or 2nd week of July) - Music and dancing takes over the centre of town during the day. At night the festivities continue at the Fairground (top of Ave Juan Carlos near the junction with the by pass). A free bus is available to shuttle people from the town centre, it departs from Calle de la Teraza, outside the Café Real. The fair culminates with a bullfight on the Sunday afternoon. Virgen del Carmen (16th of July) - Events organised by the local fishermen in honour of their patron saint. At dusk a replica of the Virgin del Carmen is carried by a team of fishermen from the chapel in the fisherman's quarter (west end of the promenade) into the sea. Crowds watch from the beach and a flotilla of small boats joins in the celebration.
